Our Services
Whether you’re a first-time author or a seasoned writer, our comprehensive fiction editing services are designed to help your work shine while preserving your unique voice.
What We Do
- Developmental Editing
- Line Editing
- Copy Editing
- Beta Reading
- Proofreading
Developmental Editing
Our most comprehensive service focuses on the big picture elements of your manuscript. During developmental editing, we examine your story’s structure, character development, pacing, plot consistency, and overall narrative flow. We’ll provide detailed feedback on what’s working well and suggest specific improvements for areas that need strengthening.
Line Editing
Line editing refines your prose at the sentence and paragraph level, focusing on clarity, flow, and style. We’ll help tighten your writing, improve word choice, eliminate redundancy, and ensure your voice comes through consistently. This service addresses awkward phrasing, unclear passages, and helps enhance the overall readability of your work.
Copy Editing
Our copy editing service ensures your manuscript is polished, consistent, and error-free. We’ll correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors while checking for consistency in formatting, character names, timeline details, and style choices. We also verify facts and catch any remaining typos or technical errors.
Beta Reading
Sometimes you need fresh eyes on your work before diving into formal editing. Our beta reading service provides reader feedback from the perspective of your target audience. We’ll read your manuscript as engaged readers and provide honest, constructive feedback about what resonates, what confuses us, and where we lose interest.
Why Choose Us?
The editing industry has some persistent problems that we’ve built our practice to address. Too many editors apply cookie-cutter approaches, prioritizing rigid rules over storytelling magic, or pushing every manuscript toward the same “marketable” formula regardless of genre or author vision. Some focus so heavily on fixing technical issues that they miss the heart of what makes your story special.
That’s why we reject the one-size-fits-all mentality. We don’t believe in flattening your originality to fit industry checklists or treating your manuscript like it needs to become someone else’s vision of what sells. Instead, we work as your collaborative partner, respecting that fiction sometimes thrives on breaking rules and that your authentic voice is your greatest asset.
Turnaround times vary depending on your manuscript’s length and what editing package you purchase. After initial inquiry, the consultation appointment and sample review will take 5-7 business days. Manuscript evaluation can vary from 6-12 weeks depending on the editing package and length of manuscript. See our pricing options for more details.
We provide editing services for both literary and genre fiction. This includes mystery/thriller, romance, historical fiction, and more. We DO NOT currently accept fantasy, science fiction, young adult, or children’s books.
Yes! Many authors benefit from combining services, such as developmental editing followed by line editing, or beta reading before copy editing. Explore our pricing details and contact us if you have any questions about the best editing sequence for your project.
Absolutely! We work with authors pursuing all publishing paths. Whether you’re preparing to query agents, working with a publisher, or self-publishing, we’ll tailor our editing approach to meet your specific goals and timeline.
Our editing fees are all-inclusive with no hidden costs. Depending on the service, you’ll receive your edited manuscript with track changes, detailed comments, an editorial letter summarizing key feedback, and a follow-up conversation to discuss any questions about our suggestions. We also provide one round of clarification on our feedback at no additional charge.
Unfortunately, we do not accept unfinished manuscripts. We require completed manuscripts for all our editing services. This ensures we can provide comprehensive feedback on your story’s full arc, character development, pacing, and overall structure. Working with incomplete manuscripts often leads to recommendations that may not serve the finished work. We encourage you to complete your first draft before reaching out for editing services.
